General information about EBFN Air Force Base
Every year in Koksijde, more specifically during the first weekend of July, the local military airport (air base) with international ICAO-mark "EBFN" an airshow takes place. This two-day event is very popular and attracts thousands of visitors. The 40th Squadron of the Belgian Air Force, known for its rescue helicopters Seaking and NH90, has its permanent base at this airport and organizes its Open Door Day around the same time.
By the way, did you know that the NH90 helicopters have also been in service for 10 years in the meantime? Yep! For a while there was also talk of eventually moving this helicopter rescue service to Ostend, but eventually this did not happen. All Belgian Army rescue helicopters still depart from this military airport.

Tip 2: Around Christmas time, you can see beautiful Christmas lights at the roundabout near "Ten Bogaerde": a half-scale model of the former Sea King. Santa Claus included!
