General information about Le Cran of Escalles
In the chalk cliffs near Cap Blanc-Nez, there is a notch that allows you direct access to the beach: we call this in French a "Cran" (hole). So we speak of "le Cran d'Escalles," "Le Cran" of Escalles. It is used by very many people to get a view from the sea of the Cap Blanc-Nez, the chalk cliffs or a romantic sunset. Even in stormy weather it is beautiful there, be careful then!
Visitor tips for "Le Cran" of Escalles
Tip #1: Use the tide table below to see when there is low or high tide. The weather forecast will show you whether to expect storms or brilliant blue skies. In both conditions, a visit is possible.
Tip 2: Also, go check out the actual beach of Zandgate (Sangatte): it is lined with boulders and there are still authentic, though sometimes dilapidated, beach houses.

Viewpoint Crucifix at Peuplingues - Highway D243
If you drive from inland to Escalles, you will come out this beautiful viewpoint. Location on Google Maps. A little further towards the coast you will also see an old mill there. Picturesque and very photogenic.
