General information about Viconia Clay Wells
The Viconia Clay Pits is a small natural area where clay used to be dug. There were plans to fill these 6 wells with waste but fortunately enough people were able to stop this. The wells are now mostly filled with water and is especially known to bird watchers. There are a number of bird watching huts. One nicely designed larger observation tower was also installed. From there you have a nice panoramic view of the polders.

Tip 1: If you want to photograph waterbirds, it's best to go into one of the available birdwatching huts. Best to bring a sturdy telephoto lens: personally, I find a 400 mm the bare minimum. Usually it's even best to bring a doubler with you that you can work up to 800 mm. The photo of the goose with chick (see below) was taken with a Canon Lens RF100-500mm F4.5-7.1 L IS USM + EXTENDER RF2x. Work was done there at 1,000mm. For the rest: exercise a lot of patience. Before you can photograph a bird, you first have to spot it. To spot birds, binoculars can be helpful. There are also small bird guides: these handy booklets can help you determine the species.
Tip 2: If you make a sighting, you can always record it in the national database of sightings. See the website "observations.be". You can also consult this database to find out which fauna and flora have already been observed by others in, for example, the "Viconia Kleiputten".
Tip 3: Next to (or through) the nature park runs a power line. You can have some photographic fun on that, too. See the examples below. I went for geometry and composition 😉.
Tip #4: While you're in the area, possibly go take a look at Oud-Stuivekenskerke. There is a beautiful memorial chapel there, a viewing platform, and so on.
