General information about Tropicalia
Tropicalia is a new project currently in the development phase. It is an initiative of French veterinarian-businessman Cédric Guérin that was already presented to the general public in March 2018. The intention is to create a very large tropical greenhouse. With an area of 2 hectares and 25 m in height, it will be the largest greenhouse in the world!
The investment was budgeted at around 90 M€. At the end of 2024, the search was still on for a fundable balance of as much as 70 to 75 M€. In early 2025, the redeeming message finally came in "La Voix du Nord" that the financing would be complete. Earlier, there were also legal problems surrounding the building permit. In July 2024, however, the court ruled that it was delivered correctly.
In principle, the grand opening should have taken place in 2025. Even now, people will be happy that the works will really start in the course of 2025.
They expect 500,000 visitors, direct employment for 145 people and another 250 or so indirectly. Together with Nausicaa, for example, it will be one of the biggest tourist attractions on the Opal Coast. The site is an industrial zone "Gretz field" that lies in Rang-du-Fliers and Verton.
