General information about Castle of Poeke
The Castle of Poeke is a very beautiful castle located in Poeke, borough of Aalter. Large and beautiful park with French and English gardens. To be visited by castle lovers: pure nostalgia. This location was used in several Flemish films and TV series such as, for example, "The Forests of Flanders" or "Slot Marsepeinstein" by Studio 100. In the surrounding forest (in total we are talking about 56 hectares) you can see very large, majestic beeches and oaks.
Urgently in need of renovation, though. The City of Aalter recently sold the domain (early July 2020) to the Flemish Government. This will undoubtedly release funds that will make renovation possible. Read this article in "Het Laatste Nieuws".
You will notice that a lot of gates of the domain are closed. Don't let this fool you: there are usually one or two gates open through which you can enter the castle park.
In its current state, this castle (park) is not exactly a high flyer, but still worth a visit while you are in the area.

Tip: you can easily visit this castle in combination with a visit to the still in use Ooidonk Castle (is about 15 km from there, near Deinze).
