You simply must have seen this: the largest aquarium in Europe, that is in a nutshell what Nausicaá, National Center of the Sea, stands for. Educational for the whole family and literally "impressive"-impressive. There are 1,600 different species of species in more than 17 million liters of water. The photos below speak for themselves. Dutch-language explanations are provided. In some low-water pools you can even touch certain fish. Nausicaa is located on the beach of Boulogne-sur-Mer. An absolute must.
Impressive are also the visitor numbers: did you know that Nausicaa has 916,000 visitors per year (annual figures for 2024)? About 16% of visitors are Belgian: in the year 2024, this was about 150,000. And speaking of records: on one particular day, August 9, 2018 to be exact, a whopping 11,967 visitors came!

Tip 1: There is a lot to see in Boulogne-sur-Mer itself: we give here some possibilities: Maison de la Beurière, the School Museum, the Basilica, the Crypt, ... .
Tip 2: If you like more peaceful surroundings, check out the fishing village of Equihen-Plage: they have a beautiful natural beach there and you can still see how poor fishermen used to make houses based on an upturned boat. Unique!
