Flax
Flax is still widely grown in French and West Flanders. It comes into flower in June and later in the summer the harvest is brought in. Flax is used for numerous products. Think of linen textiles, for example.

Tip: If you want to photograph "flax blommekes" (because that's how the flax flowers are called in the West Flemish dialect), it's best to do it in the morning. The flowers only open for a few hours. If you pass a flax field in the evening, sometimes you don't even notice that it is a flax field. Photography is not as easy as it might seem at first glance: the flowers are extremely small, are very subtly blue in color and hardly stand still because of the wind.
