General information about the Het Lage Licht Lighthouse
Het Lage Licht lighthouse is a beautifully situated, yet small lighthouse on the banks of the Westerschelde. It is made of cast iron, is about 16 m high and dates from 1875-1876. It is located in Westkapelle, which is a borough of the city of Veere (Walcheren, Zeeland) on the so-called "car beach." We refer to it as a car beach because you can drive your car right up to the waterline.
Beautiful viewpoint. The lighthouse is sometimes open to visitors. There are small exhibitions. For the large exhibition, you need to visit its little brother: Het Hoge Licht Lighthouse.
The lighthouse is also known as "Vuurtoren Noorderhoofd" (North Head Lighthouse) and "Het IJzeren Torentje" (TheIronTower).
