General information about Bergmolen
The Mountain Mill is a very beautiful stone mill on a hill with a panoramic view. You can see as far as the port of Dunkirk. You can also observe the route of the TGV very well from there. Quite spectacular when you see such a high-speed train cleaving through the landscape.
The mill was restored by the municipality in 1985 and is kept operational by a group of volunteers. Open every Sunday during the summer except the first Sunday of each month. Very friendly welcome and live demonstrations of this grinding mill. Benches are set up in the meadow around the mill where many people come to have their picnic. Blessed on a sunny Sunday! The mill itself can be visited for the mere sum of one euro per person (even free up to 14 years of age). Very democratic.
The mill was partly built with stones taken from the ruins of the old abbey. It is located across the street and can be visited very sporadically.

Tip 1: Be sure not to neglect the local church visit!
Tip 2: If you are in the area we would definitely recommend you to check out the big bunker in Eperlecques.
Another small note: there are remnants of an old abbey (across the road, see Google Maps). You can save yourself the trouble of seeing if it can be visited: it is pretty much always closed. When we were last there (May 2025), it was completely reserved for a private initiative. Occasionally (medieval) events are held there.
