The Tower of the Leughenaer (Dunkirk, France).
The "Tower of the Leughenaer" is the oldest of the 3 lighthouses of Dunkirk. These 3 towers are almost on the same line. It dates from the 15th century and is 30 meters high. It was originally a fortified tower. However, from 1825 to 1963, the tower also served as a lighthouse. It loves its name of "liar" because people sometimes sent false signals to ships from this lighthouse in order to run them aground and plunder them. Someone else suggests: "Another explanation could be that "leugheren" in old Dutch also means to lurk and then you get more the meaning of watchtower.". Seems plausible to us, too.
Once a month, this "Monument Historique" can be visited for about two hours (10-12h). The dates hang out on the tower itself. See the photo below. The permanence is provided by the organization "Acceuil des Villes Françaises", Dunkirk section.

Tip 1: possibly also go and see the 2 other lighthouses of Dunkirk or the Harbour Museum.
Tip 2: If you like a nice cup of coffee with excellent patisserie, stop by "Aux Doigts de Jean Bart".
