General information about La Station
The downtown area of Saint-Omer (Saint-Omer in French) is not exactly the most attractive. Possibly this is an understatement. Most tourists flock there, of course, to see the Notre-Dame cathedral Cathedral. This one is well worth a visit.
However, another beautiful project is that of the former station buildings. These originally date from 1903 (Architect: Clément Ligny) but were recently renovated (as part of a European project after the agglomeration bought it) and are really worth seeing. Built in neoclassical style, deliberately modeled after a 17th-century castle (symmetrical pavilions, high roofs; classical elements such as pediments, pilasters and triglins, among others), the building was reopened in 2019. The result, including the redesigned square, is very beautiful. Saint-Omer is trying to make this project a real signboard for the region.

Tip 1: Walking from the cathedral to "La Station," be sure not to miss passing by the ruins of the Abbey of St. Bertinus. Not much more than a few ruins integrated into a park. In that park, the layout of the original buildings was inserted. Original and beautiful.
Tip 2: Few people will come to Saint-Omer without visiting the impressive Cathedral of Saint-Omer. A must-see!
Tip 3: There are several interesting things to visit around Saint-Omaars: Ponds of Romelaëre, La Coupole, and so on. Consult our map.
Tip 4: Saint-Omer is also near Arques, the city where glass is manufactured. Just think of the already famous Cristallerie d'Arques. Almost everyone has something from this glass factory somewhere in his/her home. There is a factory store "ARC Outlet"(Google Maps) where you can buy some of their assortment at reduced prices (including things not made at them but always something to do with cooking, setting the table, and so on).
