The Flemish Giants

"Giants" are a typically Flemish phenomenon. For example, the city of Ypres has its giant named "Goliath" and Kassel its "Giant Daddy." Throughout the region you will find numerous cities and towns, each of which has one or even several giants. By the way, did you know that some giant traditions stipulate that their city giants never leave the city? Giants stand here and there in buildings and regularly participate in parades, circumambulations, processions.
- In Ypres, for example, you have the 3-yearly Cat Procession.
- In Wenduine you have the annual Giant Festival: dozens of domestic and foreign giants take part!
- In Nieuwpoort you have the Giant Festival. Giant Festival (with the triennial Giant Parade).

Since 2005, certain circumambulations with giants have even been recognized by UNESCO as intangible world heritage.
