In 1914, English and Germans, whose trenches in Ploegsteert were only a few dozen meters apart, decided to stop the war for one day. It was one of the many "Christmas Files" ( English: "Christmas Truce" ) of World War I. On that day ... they played a soccer match against each other. You can visit this Christmas Truce Monument as a historical site.
