General information about La Goelette

Wimereux is a charming seaside town located on the Opal Coast. It is best known for its typical colorful Belle Epoque coastal villas: the French and English nobility and bourgeoisie wanted their permanent home on the Opal Coast at the end of the 19th century/beginning of the 20th century (say, before World War I). Many of those facades (and sometimes the whole building) are protected. A treat for the eye. Pure nostalgia.

Tip 1: Want to stay in a real, authentic coastal villa for yourself? Then we recommend the B&B La Goélette recommended.

Tip 2: The starred restaurant "La Liégeoise" is no more. However, you can still visit their brasserie/restaurant on the first floor of the Hotel Atlantic. Alternatively, we also recommend the panoramic restaurant "La Dérive" (at the end of the seawall towards Boulogne-sur-Mer).

Tip 3: Even when it storms, the Opal Coast is beautiful. More specifically, the Wimereux dike is often visited during stormy weather because of the splashing water at the dike. Read our special page on photographing during stormy weather.
