General information about the International Kite Festival
Berck-sur-Mer or Berck-Plage and kite flying have been going hand in hand for several years. What's more, Berck is recognized worldwide as the capital of kite flying. Since 1987 there has been an annual festival dedicated to kite flying. And this was on the initiative of a Belgian group of aerial photography enthusiasts: after all, the first aerial photos were ever taken from a kite. At this renowned festival you will see the most beautiful, largest and unique kites in the world.

Tip 1: Allow plenty of time, as this event attracts large crowds. Finding a parking space can be difficult. There is a special parking area for disabled visitors less than 100 meters from the beach. Otherwise, it can easily take at least 15 minutes to walk there.
Tip 2: Consider bringing your own food and drinks, as the lines at the various food, drink, and ice cream stands can be quite long (50 to 100 people waiting is not unusual). There are also long lines at the public restrooms. Just so you know. 😉
Tip 3: If you have enough time, be sure to visit the particularly beautiful "Church of Our Lady of the Sand."
Tip 4: A golden tip for when you leave the festival: leave either very early or very late. If you try to leave at the official end of the day, you could be stuck in traffic for at least an hour. It's better to wait a while, enjoy the dike a little longer, and then leave: you'll get home a little later, but you'll have gotten even more out of your visit.
