General information about Zoo

The citadel park is the green lung of Lille. The core of the park consists of the actual military citadel. It was founded by Vauban and is still in use by the French military ( 43rd Bois de Boulogne regiment sits there) and, of course, cannot be visited. However, you can walk, picnic, run, bike, etc. in the park around the fortifications. It is also in this park that lies one of the North's biggest attractions, at least if you look at the number of visitors: the Lille Zoo. It is even in the Top 125 most visited attractions in France.

It is not a big zoo (there are only 80 animal species to see) but as a family outing, as a snack and especially with children, we can recommend it. Photographers also get their money's worth (although cages make many things photographically impossible).

Visitor tips for Citadel Park - Zoo

Tip 1: If you come by car then you are in luck: right next to the zoo there is a large, paid parking lot.

Tip 2: If you come to Lille then you definitely "must" visit the old city center ( "Vieux Lille" ), the new one around the stations ( including the Euralille shopping center and the TGV station) and the cathedral.
