General information about De Roome Molen

Beautifully located mill with adjacent restaurant. Make no mistake: it is of very recent date: it was inaugurated on May 6, 2000. So, compared to other mills, it is particularly young.

Located in an area with several mills relatively close together: the Driesmolen ( known as the "Drieven Meulen") and the Noordmeulen (both in Steenvoorde), the Steenmeulen (Terdegem), and so on.

Tip 1: Do not confuse the Noordmeulen of Steenvoorde with the Noordmeulen of Hondschoote, same name but different mills. This one is the oldest windmill in France (possibly even in Europe) . It is also sometimes called the Noortmeulen (note the letter "t").

Tip #2: While you're in the area, go check out the Steenmeulen is not already open again: this grinding mill could be visited. There is also a rural museum and miller's house you could discover. The previous miller passed away, so hjet wait and see if the site reopens.
