General information about Bunker Cemetery

Along the North Sea and The Channel, you can see several remains of World War II bunkers. On the beach and of Merlimont / Berck in northern France, however, you can still find a real bunker cemetery. We have no knowledge of the existence of another such bunker cemetery on a beach. The bunkers are downright impressive and many of them are now beautifully decorated by graffiti artists. Definitely worth a visit. The site is also referred to as the "Blockhaus of Berck."

Of course, take a walk through the Dunes of Merlimont. This nature reserve of 92 hectares can be compared to the nature reserve "The Westhoek" in De Panne. A good starting point on the south side of this dune area is the parking lot located at the Camping Ami-Ami. This is the easiest way to reach the cemetery. On the North side you can also walk through this dune area: look for the "Parabolic Dune Discovery Route" in Merlimont-Plage (in French: "Sentier Découverte De La Dune Parabolique").

Tip 2: You are not far from the fashionable seaside resort of Le Touquet-Paris-Plage. Be sure to visit the authentic bar of the legendary Barrière Westminster **** hotel where you can enjoy coffee and pastries ("afternoon tea") even if you are not a hotel guest. Dozens of celebrities have visited this bar: see the photo collection to the left of the elevator.
Tip 3: You may be lucky and catch the international kite flying event .

Extra tips: since you've come this far, you should know that the historic town of Montreuil-sur-Mer and the Carthusian monastery are well worth a visit.
