Poppies (Papaver) on Flemish Fields

May-June-July is the season of poppies: that's when they bloom en masse. These fragile red flowers are not only beautiful, they also symbolize the World War I commemoration ( www.flandersfields.be/nl ). In English, we speak of "poppies."

They grow mostly in roadsides and form a beautiful sight along with the rolling hills of Flanders. Here are some snapshots.

Sometimes whole fields of poppies pop up here and there. Know that these are usually very short-lived. Find out from Facebook groups where they are currently visible. Inform yourself before driving to a specific place to take pictures.
