General information about Montreuil-sur-Mer
Beautiful fortified town that was once by the sea, hence the "-sur-Mer" in the name. Now the sea is a long way off anyway. Beautiful historic buildings and fortifications by Vauban (cfr. Ypres, Grevelingen, Bergues...). Did you know that Victor Hugo found the inspiration for his novel "Les Misérables" here?
We stayed there at the four-star hotel l'Hermitage. This was definitely recommended as far as we were concerned.
