General information about Kasselberg
Kassel was declared several years ago as the the most beautiful town in France ( "Cassel, village préféré des Français 2018" ). And with good reason. It is a beautiful, small town situated at the top of a hill, the Kasselberg called. It is even slightly higher than Mount Kemmel: 176 meters (versus 156 meters). 
Beautiful old market square where you can also find the famous Musée de Flandre finds. Among other things, it houses some paintings by old Flemish masters. From the top you have a very nice view(s) of the Franco-Flemish plain. There is also a mill and a large statue of Marshal Foch.

Tip 1: It can be quite crowded in Kassel. Hence we recommend, if you have the luxury of choice, not to visit the town on Sundays. Sundays in particular are teeming with motorcycle tourists, rally drivers, etc. .
Tip 2: Keep in mind that there are a total of three viewpoints at the top of the hill. Don't think you've seen it all after one viewpoint.
Tip 3: Do you like beautifully landscaped gardens ? Then visit our friends Manu & Bruno at the Jardin du Mont des Récollets. Located a few kilometers from Kassel. Attention: during the summer only open from Thursday to Sunday.
Tip 4: Fancy a snack or a drink ? Then you can visit our friends at the typical Flemish Estaminet "Het Kasteelhof", located on the access road to the top of the Kasselberg (yellow building). There is also a micro-shop of local products: very small but with a surprising amount of choice. Put there greetings from Philippe & Kristine of Hostellerie Mont Kemmel. 😉
Tip 5: The Musée de Flandre is open every first Sunday of themonth ... free to visit. Always a nice bonus, right?
