General information about The 3 lighthouses of Dunkirk
Dunkirk has no less than 3 lighthouses.
The old lighthouse of Risban is located in the port of Dunkirk. It dates back to 1842. This lighthouse is managed by the Port Museum and can be visited on Sundays.
Not to be confused with the art deco lighthouse "Le Feu de Saint-Pol" which is located on the long pier. This one cannot be visited. Right next to it, seals are always staying.
Did you know that there is even a former lighthouse still standing in the middle of town? It was part of a 15th-century fortress: the "Tower of the Leughenaer" is 30 meters high. It is said that people sometimes gave false signals to the maritime world there with the intention of deliberately stranding ships in order to plunder them. Hence the name 😉
