The Steenmeulen (Terdegem, northern France)

This stone mill, a historical monument also known by the name "Moulin Saint-Arnoult", is one of the few still working and is entirely privately owned. Attached to it is a rural museum (20th century) and you can still visit an original miller's house. The owner "Jeff" still gave you there the explanations in "old flamesch" until the beginning of 2024.

Latest Update: We recently learned that Joseph Markey, better known as Jeff so, passed away Thursday night, May 23, 2024 at the age of 82. What a loss for this area.

This mill is not a stake mill: it is not the mill so it turns around a stake, no, the mill is fixed and it is the roof that one turns to put the mill into the wind. A unique and worth a visit!

The mill is fully operational and you can even buy various kinds of flour. One can even succeed oil there again, since 2007.

From the Steenmeulen you can see 3 other mills on the horizon. Can you find them ? At the foot of the Steenmeulen there is a millstone with a number of models of other nearby mills. One of them is the Noordmeulen (possibly the oldest mill in Europe!).
