General information about Ferme Deswarte
Marc Deswarte is a household name in gastronomic circles. Delicious dune asparagus is produced at Hoeve 't Renthof, better known as "Ferme Deswarte": fresh asparagus grown in dune sand. Very tasty and in various qualities: asparagus tips for soup, or 1st, 2nd and even 3rd choice. Prices range from 1€/kg to 18 €/kg. So something for everyone. In the store you can also get many other farm products: eggs, honey, etc.
Every year there is also a genuine Asparagus Festival. The last one took place April 26-27, 2025. This is a local farmer's market with entertainment. Although there is a very large parking lot, it is advisable to be on time or on Sunday in the late afternoon to visit. Because make no mistake: a lot of people go here!

Tip 1: Ghyvelde is one of the few places on the coast where you can still find "fossil dunes" (Cabour's dunes they are called along the Belgian side of the border). You can read more about them here, for example. The area is a beautiful piece of nature reserve but more difficult to access because of its protection. Usually you will have to rely on a nature guide (in groups, or possibly at special events).
Tip 2:Ordinary dunes are easily accessible. Go to Bray-Dunes. Through there (Les Dunes de Flandre) you can access the Belgian nature reserve "The Westhoek" and the "Westerpunt".
