General information about the Church of Saint-Omer
The Catholic "Saint-Omer Church" of Verchin would actually have remained fairly unknown to tourists were it not for the fact that it has a rather striking twisted spire. The cause of this remarkable shape is not known. There are many theories such as the wood not being dried enough, the sea winds, the craftsmen who would have wanted to shape it that way, and so on. Whatever the case may be, it is and remains a remarkable sight. Many find it worth a detour to see this spectacle.
