General information about Praalgraf of Louise-Marie

The Praalgraf of Louise-Marie may not mean much to you, but it is the tomb that the late King Leopold II had made in 1859 for his late mother Queen Louise-Marie of Orleans (1812-1850). She had died early at the age of 38, perhaps from tuberculosis. For this purpose, a chapel with mausoleum was created at the back of St. Peter and Paul Church in Ostend. Sculptor on duty was Charles August Fraikin. Very beautiful chapel with many stained glass windows and the mausoleum itself in carrara marble.

Tip 1: the tomb is located, somewhat hidden as it were, at the back of the church. There is a small corridor to the left of the altar that leads YOU there.
