General information about K9-day
K9 Day is an annual event (in 2025, the 5th edition took place on August 29) where police and other security forces that use dogs give demonstrations. It is an initiative of the network organization ANTW4WVL1. Very interesting and impressive. In 2025 there was an international edition: there were teams from the Netherlands and France.
All this continues on the beach at Ster-der-Zee in Koksijde and the approaching street (the Professor Blanchard Street), say at the BEAUFORT artwork "Acqua Scivolo".
There are demonstrations of all types of dogs: attack dogs, tracking dogs, drug dogs, ICT dogs, and so on. Services present are: defense, customs, various police forces, and so on. Impressive, of course, are the actions with rescue police and attack helicopters and boats on the beach. So there is much more to see than just dogs at work: drones, police vehicles, equipment, and so on. But of course, our faithful four-legged friends remain the attraction of the day!

Tip 1: Just about everything takes place outdoors. Keep an eye on the weather forecast and dress accordingly. The 2025 edition literally fell into the water for a large part in the morning.
Tip 2: The event draws quite a crowd. Keep in mind that if you come by car, you may have to park a long way away. Public transportation, such as the coastal streetcar, may be more appropriate.
Tip 3: For the photographers among us: you need to stay at a great distance from the helicopter and boat demonstrations on the beach, so a strong telephoto lens is recommended. For a good spot, it is recommended to keep a close eye on the program and move to the perimeter on the beach in time.
