General information about International Airshow of the Somme

Every year, normally at the end of August, you can experience the "International Airshow of the Somme" at Amiens International Airport. This show is also known as "Meeting Aérien d'Albert": the airport is located between the city of Albert and Amiens. It attracts some 15,000 visitors. In 2025, the eleventh edition took place. The Saturday afternoon and evening there is the so-called "sunset" show, the Sunday there is also show all day. Driving to the show you will also see along the road the big factories of "Airbus Atlantic": this region breathes aviation.

By the way, did you know that... almost every day there is an airshow worldwide? See below at the internet links a list.

In the area that we describe with Top.Vlaanderen , one more major airshow takes place every year. That is the one from Le Touquet. Normally it takes place somewhere in May. Do you want to know where the NH90 helicopter team from the air base of koksijde participates in such events, you can find them here.

Visitor tips International Airshow of the Somme

General tips:
1) if you are looking for other nearby attractions, consult our Tourist map of Top.Vlaanderen.
2) You can consult our overview lists: by category ( e.g. timeline, size, ...) or by region
3) You can also always consult tourist services: see our overview of tourist services

Tip 1: The sunset show runs from 3pm until late in the evening. That's a pretty long time if you want to see it all the way through. You'll find that a lot of visitors only arrive by about 5-6pm. Camping chairs and tables can provide extra comfort. There are food and drink stalls but be aware that they are very expensive (packet of fries for 8€, a hamburger cost 16€ - it's just a guess, of course).

Tip 2: The so-called "best places" (although, "what's in a name") you can obtain as a "spotter." By paying a little extra, you will end up in a privileged zone which in principle would allow you to take better pictures. These spots must be reserved in advance (not at the event itself). Be on time if you want such a place. Personally, we put the quality of such places into perspective: sometimes there are so many spotters that it's better to make a report... about the spotters, because they sometimes get in the way en masse there 😉

Tip 3: If you are only going to photograph flying planes, then it is not strictly necessary to buy a ticket for the airshow. You might as well stand on a nearby hill, or just outside the fence: after all, those planes and that spectacle can be seen from miles away and can also be photographed from there (sometimes even better or more original). You also work more quietly and therefore more concentrated. However, you will miss the static show (where you can sometimes visit planes, take a seat in a fighter jet, ...), the ambiance, the explanations via the speakers, the food and drink stalls, ... .

Tip 4: Time for something completely different now: maybe you have time enough to go visit the special basilica in Albert yet? That one really pays off.
