General information about Houtsaegerduinen
The Houtsaegerduinen is a nature reserve of some 80 hectares packed between the village centers of De Panne and Sint-Idesbald (Koksijde). It is mainly dune area. In 1981 it became a protected landscape, in 1989 it was really protected as a nature reserve.
Large areas are fenced in because ecological grazing is practiced there, so animals are sometimes present. There are a few footpaths that run through the domain, on certain stretches there is also a footpath on the outside of the domain.
You can photograph all kinds of beautiful landscapes there despite the fact that the domain is actually not that large and the surrounding buildings are never far away. To the south of the domain, the area runs into the Kerkepannebos.

Tip 1: There is a lot to see and experience in the Panne. We think for example, to stay in the same theme of dunes, the Nature Reserve "The Westhoek" (about 350 hectares in size) and the fossil "Cabourduinen" (89 hectares). As a nature lover, you simply must have seen both.
Tip 2: If you're in De Panne, you might want to check out the unique historic and protected Dumont neighborhood see. Top.Vlaanderen even has its office there in the Castle Villa "Castel Mino".
