General information about the beach of Sangatte
The beach at Zandgate (Sangatte in French) is somewhat special and this from several angles. First, right in front of you you see many ferries taking the route to England from the port of Calais. The second thing you notice on the beach are the breakwaters made of wooden posts. There is a dike edged with boulders. Another thing that stands out and is unique to the Opal Coast are the beach houses. Today these structures would no longer be allowed but those that were already there are apparently still allowed to remain there. Some of them are in lamentable condition. Picturesque photos to be taken though (especially during fall evening and stormy weather. 😉

Tip 1: Calais is not far away. This port city has several assets: the lighthouse, the mechanical dragon, the town hall with its belfry... So Calais is definitely worth a visit. By the way, a while back they completely renovated their sea dike. Really pleasant to walk and with many toys for children.
Tip 2: When you say Sangatte, of course in the same breath you also say the Cap Blanc-Nez. From this hilltop you can see the white chalk cliffs of England. A must-see ! Do not forget to visit the Cran d'Escalles.
