General information about Eperon d'Or
Eperon d'Or is a shoe and brush museum in a beautiful art deco building. "Eperon d'Or" literally means "golden trail." D. Decoene 's luxury shoe factory operated between 1909 and 1968. They were proud to be certified purveyors to the court (to both the Luxembourg and Belgian courts), as evidenced by the rather large Royal Arms on the front of the building. In French, of course, as it was the vernacular of the "Beau Monde" at the time. The building was built in the 1930s along the Kortrijk-Bruges railroad line to a design by the Izegem architect Charles Laloo.
The subjects addressed, brushes and shoes, can also appeal to everyone: young and old, rich or poor. The whole thing is particularly beautifully designed and very informative. With nice resting points in the museum. Also currently running is the temporary exhibition titled "Own Breeding." No, it is not about the weed dealer from Wytschaete, but it is about the work of apprentice shoe designers from our own region.
This renovation project won the "Immortal Heritage Award" in 2018. The Eperon d'Or initiative deserves all attention. From us, it gets the label "Topper", something we don't give easily. But in this case, definitely deserved. 😉
Laatste nieuwe info: op 23 september 2025 kwam in de algemene pers het nieuws dat het museum zou ophouden te bestaan met ingang van 1 januari 2026. De 7 medewerkers die nu het museum open houden zouden dan hun job verliezen.
Update 12 januari 2026: het museum is definitief gesloten. De werkingskosten werden als té hoog ingeschat door het stadsbestuur van Izegem.

Tip 1: 200 meters from Eperon d'Or is the largest preserved steam engine in Belgium. This "Museum of Steam and Current" can be visited by appointment.
Tip 2: Izegem is located between Roeselare and Kortrijk. In both cities you can experience a lot there. For Roeselare, these include: Castle of Rumbeke and Sterrebos, the Museum of Cycling(Koersmuseum), ... . For Kortrijk, we would like to refer you to: Beguinage Sint-Elisabeth, the Church of Our Lady, the Broeltorens, ... .
Tip 3: Guides can be booked. They provide real added value. This is especially interesting for group visits.
Tip 4: sneak into the little store, too: you'll find shoe polish in dozens of shades, maintenance products for the better shoe, brushes of all kinds, and so on.
Tip 5: This building also houses the Tourism Office of the City of Izegem. Speak to them to consider other visits in the area.
