General information about Hoeve van Sint Pô
Who writes an article about a farmstead ? Well, anyone who has driven around the Opal Coast will know the farmstead of Sint Pô. Well, not so much the farm as such, but rather the cows that graze spectacularly on the hilly meadows near the cliffs by the water. These cows, of the Charolais breed, endure not only "weather and wind," but also "mountain and valley." They are raised for meat. These cows have been photographed thousands of times. In no other place can you capture such photogenic cows with the Kales Strait in the background. In fact, they should be allowed to protect these cows as heritage, so iconic are they to the Opal Coast!
According to their website, this farm has about 180 or so cattle, according to the store clerks about 250. There is a store where you can buy the meat from it as well as various other farm products. If the store is closed you can still visit the automat shop. You will notice that this farm is very well known in the region: cars are constantly driving in and out of the yard. That says enough about the popularity of this place.
Did you know ... the name "Saint Pô" near Wissant is very likely an ancient, dialectical variant of Saint Pol, referring to Saint Paul Aurelian, a missionary saint of the early Middle Ages?

Tip 1: Expect an old, dilapidated and cluttered farmhouse. Your best shoes we wouldn't put on there. The store is on the left in the courtyard of the farmstead. So you have to drive in much further than the automaton shop. In the store you have much more choice than in the automat shop.
Tip 2: Some cows do run away from there. It was the same with us once (October 2025): about six cows threatened to cross the D940. It's always best to warn farmer Laurent Fourdinier. They appreciate it (by "they" we mean the farmers, not "the cows" 😉 ).
Tip3: Highly recommended is the "Cran d'Escalles": there you can reach the beach at the foot of the Cap Blanc-Nez.
