General information about Belfry of Menin
Belfry of Menen is one of 56 Flemish Belfries recognized by UNESCO as World Heritage Sites. A striking feature of the 33-meter-high tower is its particularly beautifully executed brick masonry. The pictures below give a nice picture of that.
The building received its present form only in 1828. The first stone of it was laid during the Wars of Religion in 1574.
The tower also contains a carillon. That chime is also considered a world heritage site by UNESCO.
Did you know ... under the tower is a World War II bomb shelter?
The Belfry was opened under the impetus of the Horizon 2025 project of the West Flanders provincial government (through the autonomous provincial company Westtoer).

Tip 1: This belfry is free to enter. However, you must register in advance. Once you register, you will be sent a bar code via e-mail that you can use to open the entrance door (Ieperstraat). Through a counter gate you can then go upstairs.
