General information about Le Hourdel
Le Hourdel is one of the viewpoints over the Bay of Somme. There is a large tower of the rescue service and is the starting point for quite a few walks: individual or groups accompanied by a nature guide. It can be quite crowded. Many people also go to this place to go see the seals. No illusions: the chances of getting close-up shots of these animals there are slim. You can (and should) observe them only at a greater distance (minimum distance should be at least 300 meters).
In this area, you can also see glasswort (called "salicorne"in French). There are a few sections of the bay's shores that have been leased to farmers who harvest glasswort there.

Tip 1: If you happen to be in the area, you could also visit theMaison de la Baie de Somme(Le Teratu, Lanchères). There is a museum, a birdwatching hut, information center, and a shop (mainly selling souvenirs, but also some local products). See photos below.
Tip 2: Be sure to drive on to the actual beach at Cayeux-sur-Mer, where you will see hundreds of colorful beach huts.
