General information about Wouwenberghof
The gardens of the Wouwenberghof (1.5 acres) are actually much better known by the French-language designation "Le jardin du Mont des Récollets". This homestead is located just outside the center of Kassel (France). When the owner purchased the farmstead in 1990, there was no less than ... one tree. Many, many years of diligent work led to this pearl of garden art. We discovered the estate some ten years ago and it has only gained in popularity since then. The baroque gardens are inspired by the paintings of the Flemish master Breughel and consist of a twenty garden rooms. The initiator, Manu de Quillacq, has already several prizes won, for example in 2011 the award of "Jardin de l'Année 2011" awarded by garden and horticulture journalists. His garden was also labeled "Jardin Remarquable".
In the central building there is also a Flemish Estaminet. You can get homemade yaatyen, artisanal fruit juices, etc. and regional beers. On Sundays, restaurant is also organized.
Attention: these gardens are open from March 21 to September 30, and only from Thursday to Sunday. Always between 10am and 7pm.

Tip 1: Bring cash , no electronic payments are possible there (info update: May 18, 2025).
Tip 2: keep in mind that the restaurant can be particularly crowded on Sunday afternoons (until around 3pm or so). Best to book in advance.
Tip 3: Not recommended for disabled people: the paths are very bumpy and difficult to access in some places.
