Surely Notre-Dame Cathedral of Saint-Omer is a particularly lavish cathedral. The pictures speak for themselves. There is even a Rubens hanging. The cathedral receives more than 200,000 visitors a year.

There are quite a few believers who flock to the Cathedral of Saint-Omer to ask for a miracle from Saint Erkembode (Erkembodo). He was the fifth bishop of Terwaan. This Saint is invoked to make people walk well or again. His porphyry tomb is near the altar. Consequently, there you will find dozens of (mostly children's) shoes. See the photo section on this.

Tip 1: Combine a visit to this cathedral with, for example, the project "La Station" (these are the renovated station buildings). Meanwhile, spend time visiting the ruins of the old abbey.

Tip 2: Interesting to visit just outside the city are the Ponds of Romelaëre (a few kilometers from there), "La Coupole" or "Eperleques". That way you immediately have a full-day program.

The great church organ of the Cathedral of Saint-Omer.

In the Cathedral of Saint-Omer you can admire, among other things, this painting by the Belgian painter Rubens. It hangs to the left of the imposing organ (if you look from the altar).

Under the large, round stained-glass window is an astronomical clock.

The exterior of Saint-Omer Cathedral has already been partially renovated. In any case, quite a bit remains to be done.
