
National Hop Museum (Poperinge, Belgium)
The National Hop Museum, with installations, photographs, didactic set-ups, etc. spread over four floors, tells you the story of hops: the different varieties, the history from the 13th century, the families who grew hops, the foreigners who came to help with the harvest, the use of hops in beer, and so on. The museum is located is the former "city scale" complex: until the late 1960s, hops were inspected, weighed and stored there. Educational. Audio guides are available. After visiting the museum, you can visit the accompanying catering establishment to taste regional beers with hops.
Fact: Right next to this museum on the street side is the birthplace of Flanders' first astronaut Dirk Frimout. There is also a city park named after this astronaut.
